NFC Google review cards: do they work, and are they worth it?

By · Updated · 7 min read

Short answer

An NFC Google review card stores your review link on a chip. A customer holds their phone near it and your Google review form opens — no app, no searching. They work on iPhone XS and newer and NFC Android phones, cost $15–$40 once, and get more reviews because they cut the ask to one tap.

What is an NFC Google review card?

It's a credit-card-sized plastic card with a small NFC chip inside that holds one web link — your Google review link. When a customer holds a phone near the card, the phone reads the chip and opens that link, so your Google “rate and review” screen appears without searching for your business or opening Maps.

NFC (near-field communication) is the same short-range technology behind tap-to-pay. The card has no battery and never needs charging; the phone powers the chip for the split second it reads it. Most review cards use an NTAG213 or NTAG215 chip, which is plenty for a review link.

Do NFC review cards actually get more reviews?

They get more reviews when they're used to ask, not when they sit in a drawer. The card removes the friction — no searching, no scrolling, no “I'll do it later” — so more of the customers who say yes actually post. The ask still matters: the card works best when staff hand it over at checkout.

  • Put it where people pay or pick up — the register, the chair, the front desk
  • Ask out loud: “Would you tap this and leave us a quick review?”
  • Ask every customer, not just the happy-looking ones
  • Reply to each new review so the next customer sees you care

NFC card vs QR code vs table stand: which is better?

An NFC card is the fastest for the customer — one tap — and looks the most professional. A QR code works on every camera phone but needs the camera opened and aimed. A stand is easy to spot but takes counter space. Many businesses use an NFC card at checkout and a QR code on receipts.

Which phones can read an NFC review card?

Every iPhone from the XS (2018) onward reads NFC tags automatically while the screen is on and unlocked. Most Android phones have NFC; it's usually on by default and can be turned on in Settings. Older iPhones (7, 8 and X) can read tags with the NFC Tag Reader in Control Center.

How much do NFC Google review cards cost?

Expect roughly $15–$40 for a single card and less per card in multi-packs. Avoid products that charge a monthly subscription just to keep your link working — a card you program yourself stores the link on the chip and keeps working forever, and you can re-program it if your link changes.

CEO Turbo cards are $24.99 for one, $39.99 for two and $79.99 for five, with free US shipping and no subscription.

Is using a review card allowed by Google?

Yes. Google encourages businesses to ask customers for reviews and gives you a review link to share. What's not allowed is offering incentives for reviews, asking only customers you expect to be happy (review gating), or posting fake reviews. The card is just a faster way to share the link.

Frequently asked questions

Still unsure? Ask it on the call — that's what it's for.

Do customers need an app to use an NFC review card?

No. Modern iPhones and NFC Android phones read the card natively and open the link in the browser or Maps.

Can I change the link on the card later?

Yes, as long as you haven't locked it. Re-write it with a free app like NFC Tools in about a minute.

Does an NFC card work through a phone case?

Through most normal cases, yes. Thick, metal or magnetic wallet cases can block it — the customer just slides the phone out.

Will the card work on a metal counter?

Metal interferes with NFC. Use it in hand, or stick it on wood, glass or plastic.
